Preserving, protecting and enhancing the uniqueness and diversity of the
Mount Washington Community

About Us
Mount Washington Alliance is the only organization of neighbors currently serving the entire Mount Washington community. We started in 2001 as a group concerned about a controversial development proposal. Since then, the Alliance has become a crucial community organization bringing people together to learn about and act on issues concerning us all. Though our name officially still includes “homeowners,” we have always invited all Mount Washington residents to join, and over the last few years we have been known simply as “Mount Washington Alliance”.
What We Do
-
Hold bi-monthly meetings where members connect with one another, learn about our community, and meet with elected officials and representatives from LAPD and LAFD
-
Publish a bi-monthly newsletter with informative articles about issues important to the community, as well as highlighting local people and nearby businesses
-
Monitor construction projects and proposals on the hill, working alongside neighbors to hold builders and developers accountable to building codes
-
Advocate for Mount Washington in citywide and statewide planning, proposals and ordinances
-
Develop long term relationships with elected officials in order to best communicate community concerns
-
Communicate about opportunities, meetings, workshops, and activities to membership via email
-
Support neighbors needing help navigating city bureaucracy
-
Provide the dog waste bags distributed in front of Mount Washington Elementary
-

How do we do this?
Mount Washington Alliance is a nonprofit. Our by-laws dictate how the organization functions, and we are run by a board of fifteen volunteers. Some of us have been living here for decades with crucial understanding of our history, while others moved in more recently and bring with them the excitement of discovering all this community has to offer. We meet eight times per year as a board. While we have busy lives, we are committed to helping this organization thrive.
We ask members to pay small yearly dues. These are used to publish and send the newsletter, insure our officers, pay a CPA to file our taxes, occasionally rent venues or pay speakers, donate to local organizations, purchase necessary equipment (like our new PA system), provide snacks, and keep our website and email online. Our board members receive no payments.
We encourage neighbors to get involved with the Alliance, volunteering as a Board member, or becoming a member. Please see our contact page for the email addresses of our Board. We’d love to hear from you!
